Oxenhope... Christmas Day 25-12-2009

Christmas Day.... NO WAY! (c) 2009

0745 - 0845hr
W F1, -4degC, 100m, fog stratus, QNH 993 rising

A morning of much potential in the foothills to the east of the Pennines with clear open skies.... but up here... deep fog stratus and still impossible to get into this watchpoint site... NO WAY!... thats for my car anyway! Here above are the gates and "white hell" beyond! An exploration of foot was abortive so went east for a "walking watch"

Merry Christmas
Dave

Maybe I chickened out a bit but the disapointment was imense when I got to the top of the hill and found that... so being anxious to get some visibility went back down to where I knew there would be at least something to see! Both large (incl GBB and Herring) and small gulls on the move all morning obviously from other roosts, roosthopping and all steaming west, some at great height. If I had got up to the watchpoint the wait (albeit a long one still bad at 1000hr)would have been worthwhile but I think the morning looking for snowmen to snap was just as good!! Dave
