Wednesday 12th October 2005
0715 - 1030hr (DCB, JS,)
Weather and Sky:
An improving morning, albeit only slightly, with improving visibility and very warm moist air throughout.Wind: initially at 0530hr S F3, remaining similar for much of the morning before rising S F4. Temp: 16 at 0530 and remaining similar all morning. Precipitation : none, but dew point = temp for all of the visit. Visibility: 3500m min initially, improving to 19km later, but light poor due to deep cloud cover for much of the time. Cloud: stratus, with some fractus, 9ok initially, becoming stratocumulus 6ok with various alto and cirrostratus above. Pressure: falling over night, troughing and rising slowly during the morning with QNH 1005hpa at 0530 and 1006hpa by 1030hr.

Once again, poor visibility and very dark light spoiling what could have been a much better morning, totally stripping necessary detail from the more distant finch movements which were again the strongest feature of the morning. Sorry again but just as yesterday, much of this more distant finch movement could only be recorded as finch sp today but we did the best we could. Further continuing extent of disappointment today on the Meadow Pipit front today with flows yet further reduced and often only single birds going through with only three being noted in the first hour. After yesterday hardly any Starling movement at all with most of the few seen, going west. Gulls also many fewer. All together a poor day.
