0730 – 1030hr (DCB, CK)
Weather and Sky:
A very cold, clear anticyclonic morning with mist lying in the valleys and to some extent over the eastern plane of Yorkshire. Wind: initially at 0615hr W F1, remaining similar, sometimes calm until 0900hr when W F2, becoming SW F2. Temp: hard white frost overnight with –1 at 0615, -2 by 0715 and –3 by 0730, then rising during the morning to +2 by 1015hr. Visibility, very clear above inversion mists with clear views to Leck Fell, Cleveland Hills, Yorkshire Wolds and Lincolnshire Wolds. Cloud: little cirrus and cirrostratus but essentially deep blue open sky with lots of persistent contrailing visible – very cold up there! Pressure: rising overnight with QNH 1030hpa @ 0615 and 1031 by 1015, then ridging and falling slightly later on.
Sky open and empty in all respects, no cloud, no birds, even later on with rising temperatures there was very little to be seen at all and very notably only four thrushes and no Meadow pipits at all. No sound of vis on the wing at all and nothing could be seen at all in the upper open sky. The end is neigh upon us here in the hills, as is deep November! On the positive side a Collared Dove was singing persistently from the wood – a rare bird here and lots of Red Grouse crackling all around.

Woodpigeon 88 > S and SW with a couple of small groups NW.
Chaffinch 3 > W
Carrion Crow 12 > SW
Starling 4 > NW
Fieldfare 4 > SW
Black headed Gull 26 > various
Lesser black backed Gull 6 > N
Canada Goose c120 in two groups ( W and SW).
White Goose with Canada flock.
A few Wigeon on the water.
