Oxenhope Watchpoint 12-04-2008

White to the West (c) 2008

Green to the East (c) 2008

0745 - 1100hr (DCB, HC)
SW F2 rising F5, 2 rising 4 degC, vis 20km haze, 8/8 - 4/8, intermittent snow, QNH 995 rising.

A very poor morning weatherwise, bitter cold with frequent snow showers but at least some birds on the move between and even during the showers. judging by the cloud the snow seemed to be more intense over in Calderdale to the south. Meadow Pipits were moving thinly west throughout and even a single Swallow was seen skirting one of the heavy snow showers. A Wheatear was seen to fly high and strongly from the embankment, north to beyond Sentry Hill in the direction of Trough Lane. A high flying Merlin obviously on the move went west as did three Linnets. A small skein of Greylags continued high to the north west. LBB Gulls were strangely going South! Probably the best bird of the day was a House Sparrow, very scarce here!!

Linnet 3 > W
Merlin 1 > W
Swallow 1 > W
LBB Gull 27 > S
