Present: Goosander 61, Green Woodpecker 1
Comments: A wonderful morning to be out with the sky full of birds, all on the move. Owing to hard work scanning for moving pinks, the Meadow Pipit count suffered very much but two flocks of over 100 went through south together with a single flock of c160 birds!... they havent finished here yet! Pinks were all high, well above the ridge tops and apart from a single flock o/h SE into the sun all were very distant... but very obvious this morning. Six skeins were located as follows: 37>S at 0715, 25>W at 0746, 10>S at 0812, 31>S at 0814, 42>SE at 0817, 35> W at 0824 and 20>SE at 1007, totalling exactly 200! It was very apparent that the Aire corridor was being used in both directions today. Finches in true October fashion were moving well with the biggest numbers of the season so far with movement in a multitude of directions! Golden Plovers were again on the move with four skeins today all going south east. A Ringed Plover went west at 0837. Skylarks were also well represented in the move today.
