Salter Royd overflow channel with Billing Hill beyond (c) 2009
0855 - 1130hr Dave Barker, Howard Creber
N F1, -3degC frost, 65km mist in valley bottoms, 2oktas, QNH 1004 rising
An ideallic morning to be out but with little bird movement in the sky today. Gulls virtually non existant and certainly no large gull movement as noted over the previous few days from other locations. The contrail vis was however prominent with much activity visible with almost haze free skies overhead. Snow with little apparent thaw lying on the Yorkshire Dales hills... but locally little continuous snow cover now in evidence. A single Blackbird (uncommon on the moor at all times!) west was the best bird of the morning.
Moving birds:
Starling 2 > E and 2 > NW = total 4
Great black backed Gull 1 > NW
grey goose sp 22 > NW.... probably pinks
Blackbird 1 > W
Meadow Pipit 2 > SW
