Oxenhope... lessers on their way! 17-04-2010
W F2 rising W F5, 6degC, 10km deep haze, 2/8 cirro sp, QNH 1021 falling
0700 -1130hr
Little evidence of passerine movement through the "silent skies" with only a handful of Swallows on the move and all of those seen were skimming the in-bye low north.... mips seem today to have gone to earth with just two birds seen passing north. Lesser black backed Gulls were however "going for it" with a constant stream, even a broad front out over Airedale going NW in singles and fews.... without the haze probably many more would have been picked up. In additionn to several smaller parties, a very large congregation of Carrion Crows went off high north... very little else however!
Moving Birds:
LBB Gull 83 > N and NW
Carrion Crow 31 > N
Swallow 6 > N
Meadow Pipit 2 > N
Goldfinch 1 > W
Cormorant 1 > E
BH Gull 1 > NW
Linnet 4 > NW

Great photos Dave, as you say, strange to see a planeless sky with no contrails. The save the earth people will be hoping this continues a while to save on pollution. Only thing over here have been a couple of helicopters. Looks like Nigel may be having a longer stay in Turkey than he expected!
Yes strangely silent.... I'd forgotten about Nigel, but its a good job he managed to get off in the clear. Sure he will enjoy and extra few days, so long as thats all it runs to?
Hi Dave Like the Wheatear , best yet. Looks as though its sat on the Res Wall. Cheers Stephen
Cheers Stephen... as you can see I was spoilt for choice a bit... they varied a lot but this one was very tame.... a beautiful rich bird.
