Watchpoint 15-10-2005

Members only watchpoint 15-10-2005
Saturday 15th October 2005
0650 – 0915hr (DCB, JS, HC)
Weather and Sky:
A downright bad morning with very little visibility and saturating fog. Wind: E F1, becoming E F3. Temp: 11 @ 0530hr becoming 12 by 0915hr. Visibility: less than 100m througout. Precipitation: wetting drizzle associated with fog. Cloud: fog – sky obscured. Pressure: more or less static for past 24 hrs with QNH 1028 / 1029hpa.

A terrible morning, very sadly with so much potential. From very first light Redwings in big numbers could be heard overhead at the watchpoint, often with constant contact calling audiable, from birds moving over in the fog. Peak activity was between 0730 and 0815hr. Occasionally birds could be seen but quite obviously a very big move on this morning. About 15 Blackbirds and at least several Song Thrushes were seen in the wood between the second and third gates. Several alba wags and Meadow Pipits could also be heard. The watch was abandoned at 0915hr.

Try again when visibility improves!!! And hope for better tomorrow.

Dave.
