Friday 6th October 2006
0730 – 1000hr. (DCB, JS)
Weather and Sky:
A lengthy shower early on but otherwise dry and windy towards the end. WSW F3 rising WSW F5, 14degC, 60km (E), low and fog stratus base c1400ft asl. 998 falling 995hPa.
Another very poor morning with the exception of two contact calls, the first of the autumn from overhead Redwings. These birds remained unseen and continuous scanning out over the valley from the shelter behind the wall could not pick up any evidence of a major Redwing influx here this morning. Otherwise a further decrease in mipit numbers, most of which were struggling west. Greenfinches were the strongest movers with a total of 43 going south in several small groups. All of yesterdays finches and Mistle Thrushes had moved on.
Moving Birds:
Mipit 24 > W and S
Redwing 2+
Alba wagtail 2 > S
Snipe 2 > S
Song Thrush 1
Greenfinch 43 > S
