Oxenhope Watchpoint 23-10-2007

Hello Dave,

Poor morning - once again blighted by fog. On station between 07.30 hrs and 10.30 hrs. Completely fogged off 07.30 to 09.30 (talk about patience !) - only heard one mipit overhead. F4 SE.  Between 09.30 & 10.30 fog cleared to a degree but visibility remained hazy and the sun added to the problems when viewing out east and south east. Could make out Speke Institute at Mountain and Herders to the west - clearer that side. Clear blue sky straight up. Only real movement was Starlings - how many were missed during the two hours of fog, who knows ?.

Mipits - 4 > S
Woodpigs - 10 > SE (all had white collars)
Starling - 347 in one hour > W in 9 squadrons ( ranging from 7 to 80 birds)
Lapwing - 10 > SE
Chaffinch - 10 > S & 3 > NW
Greenfinch - 5 > W
Goldfinch - 12 > S
Alba Wag - 3 > W
Snipe - 5 in one group > W

Only three Redwing seen blogging over Denholme. No other thrushes seen at all !!!!

Little Owl  in field near Jacks.

Cheers
