Despite the improvement from yesterday little early vis and it was after 0900hr before the Swallows got going progressively with quite a big push in the afternoon.... but the morning count was disrupted somewhat by the arrival at c 0830 of a beautiful scaley very young juvenile Mediterranean Gull on its first migration and sporting an Irish colour ring! Nothing liked it and nothing would leave it alone, so it settled out of the way and had a sleep... it left south east along with many of the LBB Gulls, one of which was sporting a Norwegian ring (which could not be read) mid morning. Dave - you sure it is Irish? As per the codes page* UK birds are also yellow, I think the series 2XXX started in 2006 with 2AXX (X=letter), one of which appeared in Scotland**. If it is Irish it is against the flow as most other Meds are heading in the opposite direction!

Hi Stephen, Not sure of exact wording but from my source of info it says new codes have been introduced 2AXX (UK) and 2E00 - 2E99... which as I read this number it clearly is... from Ireland. Anyway, whichever, for us it is an interesting confirmatory record and we will see as tonight I will send the details off and post confirmation when received.... will check out your links tonight Stephen

OK Dave, I now see that info on cr-birding, I was jumping to conclusions based purely on the medgull codes page which I thought would include all info available. So, very interesting indeed, I look forward to the final outcome...
