Sunday 22nd May 2005
0835 - 1115hr
Weather and Sky:
A deteriorating morning after a clearer night with cloud increasing quickly from the west and a few spots of rain by 0830hr. See Detail Report.
Empty skies throughout with little to no passerine movement, just a few distant Swallows far out to the east and going north. The most noticeable species on the move today was Black headed Gull, with a steady trickle of birds, totalling 29 going west throughout the morning. This, after a near absence for a long while. A single first year Common Gull went the same way. Only three Lesser Black backed Gulls were seen all going south west. At 1000hrs a Dunlin which had probably been present overnight, left on a very steeply climbing, zig zagging and uncertain track, high and ultimately off in a northerly direction. At 1013hr a group of three largish wader sp were picked up going very high NE, far out over the valley to the north-west, and wader sp they will remain!!
Word of a fly over Yellow Wagtail above the moor near here yesterday.
Moving Birds:
Black headed Gull 29 > W
Common Gull 1 > W
Lesser black-backed Gull 3 > SW
Swallow 6 > N
Dunlin 1 > N
Wader sp 3 > NE
