Wharfedale 12-09-2008

VIS MIG 1100 - 1600hr

There was a serious movement of hirundines through the valley today - they came thro` on a broad front at all levels throughout the period of observation - minimum count circa 3000 which were predominantly Swallows with about 5% House Martins.

Mipit wise, again very little movement evident - counted circa 50 birds on the move, with the majority, as yesterday, blogging/feeding up ready for the off - many midgies in the valley, at times annoyingly so. Circa 300 mipits blogging on different parts of the fell and moor.

Circa 8 Common Gulls south.

Cormorant - 2 west

OTHER

Osprey seen at 15.00 hrs heading north up river.
Kestrel - at least 8 different birds
Sparrowhawk - 2

Siskin - three groups blogging - ranging from 8 to 22 birds
