Curlews still on the Move (c) 2009
0855-1100hr
NW F2, 5degC, 65km, 7ok clearing 2ok, QNH 1007 rising quickly.
An improving morning with skies clearing and visibiliy improving..... Snow cornice on Ingleborough and also a covering on Whernside but none further east. Several small groups of Curlew coming in from the east during the visit totalling 15. Two flocks of Golden Plover totalling c150 moving very high NW... tried to photograph them but so high I couldent even find them in the viewfinder! Three Oystercatchers in the in-bye along with a large group of Lapwing totalling 61. Just a few Pied Wagtails and a single Grey about but not a single pipit on the moor or seen on the move.
Moving Birds:
Curlew 15 > W
Lapwing 21 > NW
Golden Plover c150 > NW
Other:
Pied Wagtail 4
Grey Wagtail 1
Oystercatcher 3
Lapwing 61 + a few spread out on the in-bye.
Starling 210
Goldeneye 3
Later in the morning at Leeshaw a group of 32 Curlew were in the top fields. Two different Cormorants were on the water.

The lack of Meadow Pipit has registered with me too. I have been getting singles, instead of tens and twenties.
Same today here as well Nigel and none at Leeshaw either... it cant be long now before we are getting them back. A few P Wags about this week.
