Oxenhope.... classic! 08-10-2010

Oxenhope, Bradford (W Yorks, England)
Friday 8 October 2010
Counting period: 7:00-11:00
Weather: E F4, 13degC, 30 - 50m at best, 9/8 fog stratus with base at c 500ft some 800ft below us, QNH 1018 rising
Observers: Dave Barker

Moving birds:
Meadow Pipit 33 -
Song Thrush 4 -
alba wagtail sp. 5 -

Totals: 42 individuals, 3 species, 4:00 hours

Comments: Open sky til midnight last evening with fogs forming even before. Then cloud cover advancing from the south with deep fog and intermittent drizzle persisting through but essentially dry during daylight hours. Wind ESE, then E from the early hours right through the morning. QNH troughing 1017 during the morning. Classic transitional weather here with wind from the east giving rise to deep fogs with some drizzle in the Pennine hills. The only suggestion of possible continental arrivals here in the fogs were Song Thrush calls at intervals (just four in total) from unseen moving birds o/h spread through the morning. No contacts from Redwings at all. Otherwise mipits and albas both seen and heard as they went through very close by... and that was it!
