Deep Stratus over Lancashire.... looking NW (c) 2008

0800 - 0930hr DB/HC
W F5 rising rapidly, -3degC rising 0.5, 30km, 1/8 increasing 8/8 Fog Stratus, QNH 1026 rising.

Access no trouble in the Land Rover this morning! Exceptionally cold conditions overnight had left the part thawed roads glazed with shot ice! The F5, -3deg wind was an experience in its self with brilliant very early sun and deep blue open sky. Soon after arrival however a wall of fog was noted rolling towards us out of Lancashire.... as it arrived visibility dropped to c200m, the temperature began to rise and the hard snow soften..... Moving birds, the purpose of the excersise, after the departure of the gulls and Goosanders, virtually absent from the skies and nothing in the wood.

Birds in the Sky:

Sparrowhawk 1
Common Gull 4
BH Gull 2
Kestrel 1
Meadow Pipit 2
Finch sp 1
