Arctic and Common Terns 14-04-2005

(Arctic and Common Terns @ Elland Gravel Pits HBC / JB see below)
Members only watchpoint 14-04-2005
Thursday 14th April 2005
No Visit
Weather and Sky:
An atrocious morning of low cloud, fog and heavy rain – made decision not to visit. Wind: initially E F3 @ 0630, becoming ENE still F3 by 0830 and remaining similar. Temp: 5 dp 5 throughout. Visibility: 100 –400m (local advice). Precipitation: continuous quite heavy rain. Cloud: deep fog, base well below 800ft asl. Pressure: uniform and continuing fall in pressure overnight with 999 by 0630, 998 by 0830 and rising ? 999 by 1030hr.

Quite possibly a bad decision to stay in, as have Just received advice from Halifax Birdwatchers Club of an Arctic Tern now having joined the Common Tern at Elland Gravel Pits in Calderdale. As asked by MD (Mark) I have posted this info here on the Bradford visible migration pages to give earliest advice. Most likely the cloudbase at Elland Gravel Pits is well above the bottom of the valley.
