Glovershaw 04-09-2006

David,

Checked out Glovershaw this morning. After the strong winds and heavy rain of the last couple of days I wasn't sure what to expect. The first birds that caught my eye was the family of Whinchats that were still using the area where the Glen Road meets Glovershaw Lane. The birds were there for most of last week and it was a surprise to see them again. I counted four birds this time. All the other action, this morning, was at the point where Birch Close Lane and the fields behind Golcar Farm meet. Wheatears were gathered around here in good numbers and they appeared to be no love lost with a small flock of 20 or so Meadow Pipits, that seemd intent on chasing them away. Altogether I counted six Wheatears, a Stonechat and a Whinchat on the walls and field boundaries.

In summary : 6 Wheatears, 20 Meadow Pipits, 5 Whinchat, 1 Stonechat.

Regards,
Paul King
