Oxenhope Watchpoint 16-10-2007

Today`s report Dave.

07.15 hrs - 09.45 hrs. F5 SW dropping to F4. A very dismal morning weatherwise - low cloud with cloudbase half way up Soil Hill mast - overcast throughout with 3 rain showers which finally saw the observer off. Sacrifice stone area never visible, though slightly clearer to the east - eventually, could just make out Cookridge mast. Chaffinch movement was the most predominant - 117 birds (all to the south except 27 NW). Redwings heard above cloudbase and only two seen.

Mipits - 64 > S
Starling - 115 > W (8 groups ranging from 3 birds to 35)
Chaffinch - Total 117. 90 > S and 27 > NW
Greenfinch - 17 > W
Goldfinch - 8 > S
Alba Wag - 13 > S
Skylark - 1 > E
Redwing - 2 > S

Others :
BH gull - circa 300 left roost
LLB gull - circa 20 came onto res.
Mallard - 6.
Carrion Crow - 3
Jackdaw - 24 blogging
Mistle Thrush - 3 blogging

Notably - no Fieldfare heard or seen and no Wood Pigeon movement observed.

Caldene Fields Watchpoint 16-10-2007

16th of October 07  Watch  07.15 – 9.00am

Weather:  A dry morning with 60% high thin cloud increasing to 80% thicker cloud to the E around 08.00. Good visibility to 3 mile.  F2 S/W wind. Temp 9c

 

Comments: A mixed morning with little thrush movement, although Golden Plover was on the move following yesterday's 6 moving N/W a flock of 250+ moved N.  Starling again passed through and an increase in BH Gull moving S was noted.
