Mipits and Carrion Crows 31-03-2008

Hi Howard
Thanks for your report. Interesting that you got the C Crows on the move at Fly Flatts as well also that all your mipits later in the morning (I had just about packed up by 0900hrs) were going North, it would have been interesting to see if I had stayed at the Oxenhope watchpoint if the mipit flow there would have reversed from South to North!! I think it might have been showing signs of doing this by 0900hrs?

Look forward to hearing from you later in the week.

Dave

Fly Flat Reservoir 31-03-2008

0900 - 1100hr
Very pleasant morning at Fly Flatts - light SSW winds and became quite warm as the sun rose.Visibility into Lancs.

Birdwise, the most pleasing feature was the not stop calls of the moorland birds - curlew, golden plover, mipits, skylarks, snipe, canada geese - great what a bit of sunshine will do.

Many mipits on territory & displaying like mad. Also mipits flying through - viz:

Meadow Pipits - circa 40 North - steady flow all morning.

Skylarks - 5 south over res.

Carrion Crows - a noticeable movement high and South all morning - circa 35.

Others :
Sparrowhawk - 1
Kestrel - 1

AFTERNOON from house in Oxenhope

circa 100 Fieldfare over house blogging
1 - Redshank over house toward Leeshaw

Cheers

Howard.
