Fieldfares 01-11-2006

Shaun and I had a walk around Cononley Ings this morning. Lots of birds on the flooded fields including a Pintail, 20 Wigeon, 100 Teal and over 500 Lapwing, but we witnessed a big movement of Fieldfare. We counted about 1500 birds flying in up to 4 groups at different heights and from the north-east/east towards the south-west. The conditions were supreb.

Cheers,
Paul King.

Woodpigeon on the move again 01-11-2006

Caldene Fields Watchpoint
A 15 minute watch before work produced another excellent movement of Wood Pigeon with 300+ moving S/S/W. The pattern of movement was the same as on the 29th of October in that the majority of birds were moving to the east of Caldene Fields.

The rate the birds were moving at within a 15 minute watch suggests I missed another mass movement of Wood Pigeon - really glad I had to work today!!

40+ fieldfare flew S/W the first birds of the Autumn for me.
