Comments: Never much potential this morning with squally heavy showers coming over from Lancashire from just after 0700. A chaotic sky developing with much interest but did nothing for the birds, with virtually no moving passers, no bhg and lessers well down. Conditions improving later on but still few moving birds.

Weather: wind SE1, cloud-cover 4/8, visibility 20000m, temperature 12 ℃, becoming SSE F3 with upper wind SSW, 9ok, 400m before improving 45000m and more, QNH 1017 falling 1015 Observers: Dave Barker, Howard Creber, Lester Ward

Present: Redstart 1

Comments: End of nice nocturnal conditions with initially a wonderful fogscape complete with great rolling fogbanks over the tops and inversion fog below.... fogs soon coming up however and morning rapidly deterioratingwith little visibility for a long while. An early morning Redstart hanging around the watchpoint was good. Very interesting initially but soon closing down, not to recover as the morning improved.

Comments: Tremendous fogscapes with almost calm air and inversion fog up to top level c800ft asl for first 90mins of light. Aborted earlier 0700 set off due to the onset of torrential rain advancing west, continuing til c0900hr then improving. Up at the watchpoint mid am, drizzle and intermittant low cloud prevailed with no moving birds seen.
