Queensbury...Starling Invasion 14-09-2009

A large fall of Starlings hit Queensbury today with large flocks on rooftops and in the trees.

Foxhill was flooded with them at lunch time with at least 200+ in Foxhill park alone. The neighbours Rowan tree was stripped of berries in less than 1 hour.

These are obviously moving birds from the north.

Just to concur... more about here as well (that is since the post breeders moved on) over the last couple of afternoons.

Denholme Clough... 13-09-2009

Howdo Folks,

Despite the clear skies early on there was a little bit of movement at Denholme (West Yorkshire). The Mipits came through in ones or twos for most of my visit, from 0700 - 0930. I was pleased to get another three Tree Pipits. A Sand Martin was still present with the House Martins and Swallows over the nearby village but not moving through. All the warblers have moved on except for a single Chiffchaff.

Meadow Pipits 66 mainly south
Pied Wagtail 1 West
Tree Pipit 3 East and SE
Chaffinch 16
Goosander 5 west
Kestrel 1 south
Mistle Thrush 1 south
Skylark 1 north
Goldfinch 17
Linnet 2
Swallow 9 south
Redpoll 1 east
Grey Wagtail 1

Regards
Mark
